Astuwicuwon Wind Farm

Client: Eolectric Inc & Sitansisk First Nation
Location: Kenneth, New Brunswick
Date: 2023-Ongoing

Boreal was retained by Sitansisk First Nation and Eolectric Capital Inc. as the primary consultant to conduct assessments and prepare an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed Astuwicuwon Wind Project in Carleton North, New Brunswick. The project includes up to 22 wind turbines, a substation, collector lines, and an overhead transmission line connecting to the NB Power grid. Initially planned for 12 turbines, the project expanded to 22 turbines in December 2024, extending into Crown and private lands. Boreal conducted biophysical, physical, and socio-economic assessments, including avian, bat, wetland, watercourse, and species-at-risk studies. Boreal wrote the EIA and led all other aspects of the EIA submission in 2024. The EIA outlined baseline environmental conditions, evaluated project impacts, and proposed mitigation measures. Boreal and the Proponents remain committed to minimizing environmental impacts throughout the project lifecycle. Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with turbine installation in 2027. Ongoing field surveys will support project planning, including potential expansion.
