Bright Blue Eggs
It’s hard to miss these bright blue eggs! Flushed a Hermit Thrush and checked out the nest during a bird survey with Derrick Mitchell #eyesdown #eyesup #earsopen
Spotted Prince’s pine (Chimaphilla umbellata) during a terrestrial habitat and wood turtle survey today.
Our love of plants at Boreal Environmental doesn’t stop on Fridays. Cornhill Nursery was a great place to search for native plants for the garden. We found a nice Service Berry shrub, along with some great wood fired pizza and local cider.
Breeding Bird Point Survey
Boreal staff performed the first breeding bird point survey of the season today. Derrick is intently confirming Black-throated Green Warblers and Northern Parula in the photo below. We also had auditory confirmation of Nashville Warblers, Hermit Thrush, Alders Flycatchers, among other birds. #borbs #birbs #birds
Observed a patch of Shinleaf in a cedar swamp during a wetland delineation. It is not an important food source for wildlife, but ruffed grouse are known eat it. #spotthatplant #wetlands #ruffedgrouse
Tall Meadow Rue
Spotted some Tall Meadow Rue during our hike though a cedar swamp. Beetle species feed on the leaves and moths use it as a host plant. During its flowering stage bees and butterflies visit the flowers. #ecology #wetlands
Successful Bat Detector Install
Another successful bat detector install. Got the Mavic Mini out for the inspection.
Bat Detector Installation
Readying the rigging for another bat detector install, just before the rain came down in buckets. Rain or shine, the Boreal Environmental team are out in the field, getting the data you need. #environmental #bats
