Roosevelt Campobello International Park

Client: New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government (NBDELG)
Location: Campobello Island
Date: 2022

In 2019, a 470-meter gravel walking trail was constructed along the eastern edge of a wetland in the southern portion of Roosevelt Campobello International Park, with a total footprint of 2,248 square meters. To assess any potential indirect impacts beyond the trail’s footprint, a ten-year wetland monitoring program was proposed to the New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government (NBDELG).

Boreal Environmental was engaged by the Park to develop and implement a wetland compensation plan, ensuring regulatory compliance and ecological balance by offsetting the trail’s impact on Lower Duck Pond Bog. Our services included assessing, coordinating, and monitoring compensation projects to support long-term wetland health and sustainability. Biophysical surveys included wetland delineation, wetland functional assessments (WESP-ACs), water quality, fish habitat assessment, and fish community surveys using a backpack electrofisher and fyke nets.
